Right!  The Inca people believed their own origin story.

As Chloe's dad mentions in the book, nearly every society has a story of how people came into existence.  Belief in an origin story can tie people together and help to set some kind of order.  Belief in the Inca origin story and the idea that the emperor was the closest to the sun god, Inti, helped the Inca empire to maintain control over the people.  In the image to the right, the emperor is touching Inti.

There are a few versions of the Inca origin story. In nearly all, the first people were created by Inti, the sun god.  And in most Inca creation stories, the sun god and his wife the moon created four brothers and four sisters who stepped out from the Lake Titicaca or from a cave.  The brothers and sisters traveled for a very, very long time.  One brother bragged about his power, and the others tricked him into returning to a cave. When he went into the cave, they trapped him inside.
